Attending the 2022 INGRoup Conference in Hamburg

Human-Robot Teams and Team Virtuality

Last week (21.-24.07.2022), Dr. Eleni Georganta and Selina Stracke presented their compelling research on teamwork in the digital space, specifically on human-robot teams and team virtuality during the pandemic, at the 17th Annual INGRoup Conference in Hamburg, Germany.

The INGRoup serves as an interdisciplinary network for group researchers that is using research to advance the understanding of group behavior, dynamics, and outcomes. The INGRoup Conference’s goal is to provide a context for scholars to promote communication about group research across fields, advance understanding on group dynamics through research, advance theory and methods for understanding groups, and promote interdisciplinary research.

Dr. Eleni Georganta provided first insight into trust in human-robot teams by holding a presentation on the paper “Trust in Human-Robot Teams: Should We Be More Alike Than Different?”, co-written by Dr. Anna-Sophie Ulfert-Blank. She discussed how perceived human-likeness had a significant impact on acceptance of a robot teammate and in turn on trust towards that teammate, and trust towards the team as a whole. No differences were found when the robot teammate had a human-like compared to a machine-like voice.

Selina Stracke together with Dr. Eleni Georganta also presented the paper “How Perceived Team Virtuality Impacts Team Processes and Performance During The Covid-19 Pandemic”. This research investigated how 30 working teams during the pandemic perceived their team virtuality and how this impacted the way they operated and performed. The findings showed that transition, action, and interpersonal processes mediated the connection between perceived team virtuality and outcomes.

We are very delighted that our chair was represented by Dr. Eleni Georganta and Selina Stracke at the 2022 INGRoup Conference in Hamburg, Germany with two presentations on their exciting research!
