Vocational education and training is one of the key factors in Germany when it comes to educating the future workforce. As plant knowledge seems to be of less importance during the landscaping apprenticeship in Germany, Cora Huhn reached out to apprentices and their trainers. She conducted a survey among landscaping apprentices, talked to experts of the sector, and analyzed data of the final examination grades of landscaping apprentices in Bavaria, Germany. Results point to overburdened apprentices and trainers who try their best to transfer their knowledge to the younger generation (e. g. 5-min-construction-site-method, plant-of-the-week) – but do not always succeed.
