Linus Hof receives Best Poster Award 2022

On his poster, he presents current research on strategies of information search and integration in experience-based decisions.

Linus Hof received the Best Poster Award 2022 at the TUM School of Management Research Fest. In the poster competition, the PhD students and postdocs at the TUM School of Management each presented one of their ongoing research projects. With the Best Poster Award, the TUM Management Alumni e.V. honored the three most successful posters among all submissions.

On his poster entitled "Strategic information search and integration in decision making under uncertainty", Linus demonstrates that the interplay of simple cognitive strategies of information search and integration can lead to systematic differences in the resulting choice patterns. The presented results are based on a joint research project with Veronika Zilker and Thorsten Pachur, which aims at tracing certain choice tendencies and their representation in decision models back to the underlying information-processing mechanisms. The project considers so-called decisions from experience, in which the relevant information about the decision options is not fully described, but must be actively actively collected. Such experience-based decisions contain a component of uncertainty and resemble many everyday decisions, since the complete knowledge of all relevant information cannot be assumed.

So far, the project is based on computer simulations and modeling and is intended to be the starting point for further empirical studies. Based on the current theoretical studies, it can be demonstrated that the way information is searched and integrated in the parallel processing steps can interact and produce choice patterns that are commonly observed in decisions from experience.
