Jannet John is a Postdoc at the Chair of Economics of Horticulture and Landscaping at the Technical University of Munich since October 2023. Her research interests are in agricultural and institutional economics, specifically farmer welfare, farmer organisations and sustainable agricultural techniques.

Jannet has a PhD specialising in Food and Agribusiness from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), India. She holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Loyola College (Chennai), India and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from St. Xavier’s College (Ahmedabad), India.

During her PhD, she was a research scholar at the International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) for the project ‘The Dynamics of Urban Sprawl: land-use changes, food supply and sustainable agricultural production systems in the arid and semi-arid zones’ supported by the Swedish research council for sustainable development (FORMAS). As part of the project, she conducted primary farmer surveys to investigate the impact of the increase in urban sprawl on Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in the states of Telangana and Maharashtra in India.

Before starting to work on her PhD, Jannet worked at Goldman Sachs in the investment banking sector. Post PhD, she has worked as an Assistant Professor in Economics at the Jindal School of Banking and Finance (JSBF), part of Jindal Global University (JGU) in India.
