Getting to Garmisch-Partenkirchen by Plane

If you travel by plane, you will probably arrive at the Munich International Airport “Franz Joseph Strauss” or at the Airport Innsbruck in Austria.

From the Munich International Airport “Franz Joseph Strauss”

The distance between the Munich Airport and Garmisch-Partenkirchen is 120 km (75 miles).

Ticket:

At the airport, you can buy your train ticket at the ticket counter or at one of the automatic ticket machines.

Please buy a “Bayern Ticket”, which is valid on all trains and buses throughout Bavaria and will be good to bring you to the MSM venue.

Ticket Types:

  • The Bayern Ticket Single is valid for one passenger. It costs approximately €23.
  • The Bayern Ticket 5-Personen covers up to five people and costs approximately €43, valid for one day. This is a very interesting option if you are not traveling alone.

(Important information: The ticket can be used between Monday to Friday from 9am until 3am the following day. On Saturdays and Sundays, it can be used throughout the entire day)

  1. At the airport, take the S-Bahn (suburban train) S1 or S8 to München Hauptbahnhof (central station). They leave every 20 minutes from platform 1 and 2.
  2. At München Hauptbahnhof (central station) please take the regularly scheduled, hourly (between 16-19h every half an hour) regional rail service to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (it is called Regional Bahn or BOB). At the station, you should check the platform from which the next train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen leaves. Duration approximately 1 h 20 min.

  3. At the Garmisch-Partenkirchen train station, please take a taxi in order to get to the hotel. (Alpen-Taxi, Lorenz Heinzinger, Mobil: +49 171 774 99 99, e-mail: taxi-heinzinger@t-online.de, http://www.taxi-heinzinger.de) (circa 20 min, price: circa 25 Euro)

Travel time from Munich Airport: circa 2 h 30 min.

Getting to Garmisch-Partenkrichen by Train

  1. If you travel by train, you will probably arrive at München Hauptbahnhof (Munich central station) and you can change trains there.
  2. At München Hauptbahnhof, take one of the regularly scheduled, hourly (between 16-19h every half an hour) regional trains to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Regional Bahn). Duration approximately 1 h 20 min. Please check at the station the platform from which the next train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen leaves.

Getting to Garmisch-Partenkrichen by Car:

From the north:

  1. Take the Motorway (Autobahn) A 95.
  2. Please exit the Autobahn in “Eschenlohe” (Munich-Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GAP)), where the Autobahn A 95 continues as a smaller motorway: Motor highway (Bundesstraße) B2.
  3. When you arrive at the Augsburg GAP, the Motorway B2 continues as the smaller Motor Highway (Bundesstraße) B23. The Motor Highway B23 leads directly to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
  4. After arriving in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, follow the signposting “Zugspitze/ Eibsee” via Grainau. This will lead you to the Eibsee-Hotel.

From the south:

  1. Take the motorway (Autobahn) A12/ E60.
  2. When you arrive at the Mittenwald - Klais - Kaltenbrunn – GAP, please take the motorway B 2/E 533 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
  3. After arriving in Garmisch-Partenkirchen follow the signposting “Zugspitze/ Eibsee” via Grainau. This will lead you to the Eibsee-Hotel.
